Welcome to our health education section. There
are many subjects that could be addressed that are very helpful to anyone seeking dental
care or in need of emergency dental treatment. Some subjects that Dr. Lestage believes to
be important are the following:
- Dental Emergencies
- Home Care
- Child Care
- Baby Bottle Tooth Decay
- Diet & Dental Health
- Oral Health for Seniors
- Bad Breath (Halitosis)
- Dental Research Hot Topics
- Dental Insurance (Understanding Your Dental
Benefits vs. DIRECT REIMBURSEMENT)
These are only a few of the subjects that are
addressed by the American Dental Association at its website. You may contact them at
http://www.ada.org. Once you view the ADA homepage, the subjects above may be accessed
by simply clicking on the green button on the left,
.
Then, you will see several education items at the top. By scrolling down the page, you
will notice all of the above items with individual headings or otherwise included under
HOT TOPICS.
The ADA also maintains a toll-free number
(1-800-232-7698) for those of you who are interested in a dental benefits plan which
minimizes interference in decision-making between you and your dental care provider. This
type of plan is termed DIRECT REIMBURSEMENT. It can greatly simplify the benefits process
for all involved. It can easily be established by most employers and can prove to be very
cost-effective for both employer and employee. The ADA website provides much free
information about establishing such a plan. And, by calling the toll-free number, the ADA
will work with the employer at no cost to determine if this type of plan would be
cost-effective for them and will help them design one if the employer desires.
ROWPAR
We also provide the ROWPAR button on our banner
graphic above or the ROWPAR link below, you will learn more about the mouthwash and
toothpaste products (CLOSYS II ®) that we offer to treat bad breath. These same products
were formerly known as RETARDENT and RETARDEX. These cannot be purchased in any store or
pharmacy. It is Dr. Lestages current policy to offer these products only to
active clients. An initial dental exam is all that would be necessary for their sale to
anyone who is not presently a client.
National Institute of Dental &
Craniofacial Research (NIDCR)
The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research
(NIDCR) is one of several branches of the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda,
MD. The mission of the NIDCR is to the promote the general health of the American
people by improving their oral, dental and craniofacial health. Through nurturing
fundamental research and the development of researchers, the NIDCR aims to promote health,
to prevent diseases and conditions, and to develop new diagnostics and therapeutics.
Knowledge acquisition through science and effective and efficient science transfer are the
means used to contribute to improved quality of health.
Six major goals provide the focus for the remainder of the 1990s and into the next
millennium:
- To continually reassess and reprioritize ongoing as well as new
science opportunities; taking advantage of the best-in-the-world technologies and
standards, and movement toward our mission.
- To renew, retrain, and revitalize our research personnel and
facilities; working with universities, colleges, high schools.
- To maximize the use of our resources; developing, nurturing and
perpetuating partnerships and collaborations.
- To assure a means for the aggressive promotion of available
methods to promote health and prevent disease; with a concerted focus on disadvantaged
populations.
- To actively participate in enhancing scientific literacy for the
American people.
- To recognize and nurture the contributions we make to improvements
of the American economy, education, defense, international relations and the health of our
people.
MEDLINE
Anyone who would like to conduct their own search of articles on
a particular condition or procedure may use MEDLINE. MEDLINE is the National Library of
Medicine's (NLM) searchable database of nearly nine million citations from approximately
3,800 medical, dental, health, and scientific journals. MEDLINE contains citations
and some abstracts of articles dating back to 1964. You may access the MEDLINE at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus.
If you elect to proceed to the ADA, Rowpar,
NIDCR, MEDLINE, CDC, or other websites at this time, we hope
you will return shortly to learn more about our practice. Thank you.
